Team up with businesses and BCL in your community

When it comes to climate policy, the biggest companies have their own lobbyists on Capitol Hill.

How can smaller businesses amplify their voices in Congress?

A well-known approach is to sign onto national statements of principle.  We applaud the organizers and supporters of efforts like We're Still In, including Low Carbon USA.  We support these, including our own Carbon Pricing Principles.

At BCL, we are working on two new advocacy directions for business interests:

  1.  Through trade groups.  As we gain support from more companies within a business sector, we help them organize and direct their advocacy through business and trade organizations who are active in Washington, DC and state capitols.  This work is in progress with the Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
  2.  Through joint letter campaigns to and in-district meetings with Members of Congress.

Through our CCL chapter Grasstops Outreach Teams (GO Teams!), BCL pursues these efforts at the District and State level to coordinate efforts among local and state CCL chapters and surrounding business.  Our GO Teams connect and organize with companies who want to speak up on climate and who can bring their climate concerns to a listening audience of Representatives and Senators.

You can play a critical role in these efforts by collaborating with local GO Teams to be powerful voice about climate policy.  BCL has piloted this campaign with CCL chapters in Idaho, where local businesses joined our GO Team and, through networking, helped make introductions to other companies in the area with great results.  After the successful Idaho campaign, we are now rolling out the GO Teams campaign to CCL chapters all across the country.

If you would like to engage with your Members of Congress at the community level and connect with with your local BCL GO Team, please email our GO Team Program Manager.
